Vitiligo, also known as
Leucoderma is a skin disorder where it loses its normal coloration and is
characterized by white patches of unpigmented skin. Normal color of the skin
is due to melanin pigments. In Vitiligo, the skin starts losing its
pigmentation in patches and becomes colorless. Usually Vitiligo is progressive in
nature. These unpigmented patches are either single or multiple. Most of the cases don't have any symptoms. It has got more of social
importance than medical.
Exact causes of
Vitiligo are unknown. It is an auto-immune disorder. Hereditary factors play some role in this disorder. Anyone can
develop this condition irrespective of age, sex, race, socio-economic status
etc. It is not a contagious disease.

White patches of
